Grade 4 - 8-- Johnson's excellent introduction updates the previous edition and includes important information about bodies, adolescence, pregnancy, love, STDs, AIDS, incest, child molestation, homosexuality, contraception, abortion, masturbation, heredity, and values. Cohen's 24 pages of black-and-white line drawings are clear and especially well captioned. Some information in the text is sometimes repeated in the captions, so browsers will get the most critical information. Johnson stresses the importance of such concepts as the worth of each individual, consideration, family, responsibility, pleasure/good feelings, self-control, communication, and information. In addition, tolerance and open-mindedness characterize this text. Four pages on AIDS have been added to this edition. Appendices include a complete index, a five-page quiz, and a glossary that gives additional information. The book ends with a chapter on love.
