About the Author:

Robert Stephen Pindyck is an American economist, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Professor of Economics and Finance at Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research.

With Avinash Dixit he is author of “Investment Under Uncertainty” (Princeton University Press, 1994; ISBN 0691034109), the first text-book exclusively about the real options approach to investments, and described as “a born-classic” in view of its importance to the theory.

Pindyck received bachelor degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics from M.I.T. in 1966, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T. in 1967, and a Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T. in 1971.

 

Daniel Rubinfeld is Professor of Economics and Robert L. Bridges Professor of Law. He has held joint appointments in the Economics Department and at Berkeley Law School since he joined Berkeley's faculty in 1983 as a professor. He also is a past president of the American Law and Economics Association. Professor Rubinfeld was chair of the Jurisprudence and Social Policy (JSP) program from 1987 to 1990 and was the associate dean and chair of the JSP program from 1998 to 2000. He has also served as deputy assistant attorney general for antitrust in the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as in various capacities with the President's Council of Economic Advisors, the National Academy of Sciences, the Urban Institute, and the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Bureau of Economic Research. He has received a Guggenheim fellowship and an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel.
