From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2-- While some of the humor here might be lost on young readers (the portrait of ``Rembr ant '' is a hoot), this `` ant hology'' is a hilarious alphabet book of people and concepts featuring the word ``ant'': bow-legged cowboy vigil ant es in 10-gallon hats and spurs, the philosopher K ant , a jubil ant game show contest ant , a hestit ant diver on a high board. The concept is clever and well executed, and the illustrations are wonderfully offbeat, and filled with personality and great expression. Some are more colorful than others, but the carefully textured and shaded colored-pencil drawings are equally effective and imaginative. The concept is carried through, literally from cover to cover, with ants carrying off the bar code on the back. While it would be difficult to use this book to teach the alphabet, it succeeds on so many other levels (humor, art, concept) that it will be enjoyed by young and old alike. A wonderful first effort. --Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, NY
