He describes how the villages in the Hundred competed against each other, and how he felt in a foreign land when, as a boy, he visited Sedgebarrow on Saturday mornings, his cart horses tied nose to tail in tandem. He recounts the legend of the Tibblestone itself, a story handed from man to boy since time immemorial, the holes in its sides being the impressions of a giant's fingers, and tells us of the superstitions surrounding this and other landmarks, which were such an important part of life for country folk in the early years of this century.
