One of my friends at work recommended that I read a Julie Smith book when she heard that I was going to New Orleans on a business trip....so I did. It was a great way to learn about this amazing city prior to my visit and much more interesting than a travel guide. After reading I couldn't wait to have a beignet, walk down Bourbon Street, go to the French Quarter, and visit the Garden District. An added bonus was that I really liked Smith's main character, Detective Skip Langdon---she's smart and funny.
