Grade 3-6-An attractive but imprecise title. Oversimplification and inaccurate ordering of information, as well as some awkward analogies make the volume confusing if not misleading. An introductory double-page spread states that "Grass, trees, and flowers grew in the warm sun. In the oceans, simple life forms began to grow." This is an inaccurate representation of the plant forms in existence during the epochs when simple life forms were developing. Some experiments barely qualify as observations, e.g., standing in the shadow of a large tree and extending one's arms beyond the tree's shadow to create an animated tree. Trevor Day's Light (RSVP, 1998) is a more accurate offering.
