Review:
Elegance pervades this lovely guide filled with dozens of imaginative ways to decorate with candles. The author's background as an accomplished floral designer means that flowers (as well as fruits, berries, and other natural materials) play a prominent part in the beautiful projects. Stunning photos and good step-by-step instructions, complemented by detailed color sketches, simplify the process of making sconces, centerpieces, candelabras, and other candle-focused creations for everyday and holiday use. Styles range from rustic (rope and seashells holding a taupe beeswax candle; a driftwood sconce) to seasonal (spring blossoms trailing over a pillar pedestal; clove-studded oranges filled with votives) to sophisticated (a candelabra draped with velvet and grapes; a towering candlestick entwined with greenery and limes). Some of the arrangements are easy; others require patience and practice, but the excellent directions and the general techniques section provide all the needed information. In addition, a plant directory explains how to work with fresh materials, and a suppliers list offers extensive resources for candles and trimmings. --Amy Handy
