I loved researching this book. Of course, having studied art for years at various colleges and universities (four!) and having a BFA and grad studies in Fine Arts, it is a subject dear to my heart. And many of the paintings were already among my favorite influences. So, it was wonderful to travel down to Washington DC and reacquaint myself with the fabulous collections at the National Gallery of Art. Because of copyright issues associated with their Open Access program, the art shown in the book was created before the 1920s, so many great and diverse artists of the 20th century are not covered. I hope that children (and adults!) will enjoy learning about the different artistic genres, and understand that creativity involves the combination of one's own history, education, and influences as well as one's personal voice.
About the Author:
Roxie Munro has created more than forty nonfiction and concept books for young readers (many using "gamification" to engage the reader andenhance learning). She has had fourteen covers for the New Yorker published. Munro is an artist who embraces both the old and the new.Her fine art is exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States, and her innovative apps can be found throughout the virtualworld. She lives in New York City.
