I write all my books such that each can be read as a standalone novel. Having said that, you'll obviously gain a deeper understanding of what's going on by starting with with book one, Beyond Cloud Nine.

"I might really get to visit the past." Jo's face beamed. "Do you know how long I've dreamed of this? Only all my life and then some."

Having absorbed everything in silence up until this point, Erik frowned. "Temper your enthusiasm until you hear the catch."

"What catch?" Jo asked.

"Remember that arriving in the past causes an alternate timeline to unfold from that point onward," Maya said. "If we go back, we can never return."

Lines creased Jo's forehead as she processed the statement."You're saying that if we travel to the past and then return to our own time,it won't be the same."

"Affirmative," Bob said. "The new timeline's future may or may not resemble the present you know now. Predicting the degree to which the timeline will differ from ours after the passage of 200,000 years is well beyond the capabilities of the most sophisticated AI."

"On one hand," Maya said, "if the timeline plays out similarly enough to ours, we'll encounter different versions of ourselves. The closer that future is to our present, the greater the chances our different selves will be living our lives. We won't be able to resume them."

"On the other hand,"Erik said, "if that future isn't anything like what exists now, our lives may not exist to resume."
