From the Author:
Flowers in the Moonlight is a WWII romance based on the true story of my grandfather, a French interpreter during the war, and my grandmother who left the family farm in Campti, Louisiana to become a nurse in Shreveport. After the war, they were married and spent many happy years together with a wealth of family and friends. He died of a massive heart attack when the eldest of their six children was a senior in high school and the youngest was only a year old. On the way to the hospital, he asked my grandmother to take care of the kids. She spent the rest of her life keeping that promise.
Ruby (Rose) was an amazing woman who never hesitated to help those in need. (If you are a nurse, you know many people will call you for advice before they go to the doctor.) Her strong faith, perseverance, and commitment to family continue to be an inspiration to me. This isn't in the story, but she is the reason my family loves baseball so much. Ferdinand (Frank) did not continue his career in the Army Air Corps. He remained in Shreveport where he taught French in local high schools. Occasionally, I speak with those who remember him. The stories I have heard over the years helped me to find his personality. Shout-out to my mother's high school friend, Mary Ann, for her input. My great-aunts, Betty Gay and Ellen Barr, made sure I got things right about Shreveport culture and "the way things were." I am blessed to have such a caring, bossy family.
