Widely known for her non-nonsense approach to access issues, Candy founded Emerging Horizons so that people would have a realistic view of accessible travel options. Emerging Horizons accepts no advertising in order to present an unbiased view of accessible travel.
Candy wrote Barrier Free Travel; A Nuts And Bolts Guide for Wheelers And Slow Walkers as the result of her research and experiences as editor of Emerging Horizons.
Candy's work can also be found in disability-related magazines including New Mobility, PN, Ability and Arthritis Today along with mainstream publications such as the Dallas Morning News.
Her syndicated column Candy Harrington’s Barrier Free Travel is published monthly in US senior newspapers. Candy also pens a bi-monthly accessible travel column for the East West News Bureau’s on-line magazine, Travel World.
Formerly, Candy was the Travel Channel Producer for a major disability portal. Now she contibutes syndicated content to other on-line portals. She's a frequent keynote speaker on the subjects of accessible travel, marketing to the disability community, universal design and accessible recreation.
Candy is a managing partner in C&C Creative Concepts, an editorial and design company which works with disability related businesses and organizations. In 2002, C&C Creative Concepts worked with Access Northern California and the San Francisco CVB to produce San Francisco's second access guide. Candy now focuses her efforts on encouraging other CVBs to produce similar access guides.
As a member of the Board of Directors of Access Northern California, one of Candy's main goals is to promote accessible tourism through information and education. She does this by educating the hospitality industry about the needs of people with disabilities, and by providing useful access information to the traveling public.
Candy resides in northern California with her travel-photographer husband, Charles Pannell. They share their home with their ever-growing flock (birds, not kids). Candy and Charles are both active members of the Bay Area Travel Writers (BATW).
