Dorothy Edwards is the creator of the My Naughty Little Sister series. Shirley Hughes has written and illustrated more than 200 books. Her many awards include the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Eleanor Farjeon Award.
Seven naughty little sister stories, written fifty years ago for the BBC's "Listen With Mother" radio program, are told by Jan Francis. Francis's presentation is that of a soft-voiced nanny except when she launches into the baby talk or high-pitched demands of the naughty little sister. Sister's development from no language to complete sentences is a bit startling in this collection, which has no apparent chronology. Younger listeners will not catch the Briticisms; older listeners will be bored by the tame tales since little naughtiness actually occurs. The young sister is simply a cross and pampered child.
