Attila rose to power among the Huns just as the Roman Empire was crumbling. As he sought to expand own empire through a system of military conquest and tribute, Attila the Hun inspired terror throughout Eastern Europe.

From School Library Journal:
Grade 6-9-Ingram portrays the villain as the cruel killer he was. Attila's forces were greatly feared because they fought from horseback and treated their captives with egregious brutality. Attila forced the conquered rulers of Eastern Europe to pay tribute for protection, and destroyed any cities in his path, especially in France. This title accurately reflects what is known about the man and the battles he fought, and includes his meeting with Pope Leo I, which saved Rome. It also discusses his influences on the world at that time and why Attila has become a symbol of terror and barbarism. Good-quality, black-and-white reproductions, photos, and maps appear throughout.
