A Flatlander, by definition”at least by our definition”is anyone not originally from Maine. We forgive them. Really, we do. In fact, we want to help. A Flatlander's Guide to Maine offers visitors, transplants, wary guests, native animal species, and anyone else uninitiated in the ways of the Pine Tree State a well-researched and finely illustrated educational guidebook. Readers will learn about the state's culture, attractions, animals, plants, history, lingo, and many other important aspects of Maine life. We are confident this book will make your visit more intellectually fulfilling and will enhance your Vacationland experience. Okay, okay, actually this book is mostly a lot of humorous drawings, silly cartoons, and made-up stories that we think will make you laugh. If you learn anything, that's on you. But it is all about Maine and we 100% stand by our claim that it will make your visit more fun and you will laugh. (P.S. Natives will love it, too!)

About the Author:
Let's be right up front about this: Mark Scott Ricketts is not from Maine. He's from away. He is a writer of comics and illustrator who aspires to be a Maine humorist. Of course, this goal is basically impossible since, as we already mentioned, he was not born in Maine. He is not a sociologist, either. He is just an out-of-stater who moved to Maine and fell in love with the landscape and the people. For a couple few years he's been researching and exploring the Pine Tree State. He now feels compelled to share his discoveries. He gets things wrong every once in a while, but he means well. We forgive him, because he's just a Flatlander. He really doesn't know any better. It should also be noted that he has created very successful comic books and graphic novels for Marvel, Dark Horse, and Image Comics. And he is the winner of the 2000 Klasky Csupo Screenwriting Competition. So, that's at least something, right?
Review:
"Ricketts's colorful illustrations pop from the pages, and you get a chance to see some of the full range of his talents as an artist as well as humorist." - The Maine Edge

"Maine may have top-drawer humorists like John McDonald and Tim Sample, but now we can add cartoonist and satirist Mark Ricketts to that august list." - Bill Bushnell, The Kennebec Journal
