This is one of a series of "novels" in pamphlet form, printed on cheap paper and sold for 10-cents each, at the turn of the 20th century. These "Arm Chair Library" titles were popular for train riders and casual "magazine"-type interests, but did spread literacy and reading habits in the adult population, when personal reading matter was a 'novel' idea, and general lending libraries were not yet widely established, outside of larger cities.
