Hand-made typecript brochure, prepared as an introduction to the unit for a new commander, Brig. Gen. Earl S. Gruver, Chief of Ordnance for the U.S. Army in Europe, giving a history and mission statement for the ordnance supply group, headquartered at Mannheim, West Germany, to supervise depots at various locations in France and occupied Germany. Oblong 8vo (4 5/8 x 8 1/8 inches). Illustrated with 15 mounted photographs, including portraits of the unit commander Lt. Col. F.E. Hendler and two depot commanders and views of the various depots. Created by Pfc Rush who has penned his name on the first page, the "brochure" contains a typed history of 7847th and each depot under its command, each including an organizational chart, layout area, and statistics; a foreword is signed by Col. Hendler. The photographs include views of the gated entrances to the depots in Germersheim, Mannheim, Pirmasens, and Rhine in Germany, and Braconne, Fontenet, and Nancy in France. Gruver (1898-1963), an instructor for ordnance and gunnery at West Point, saw service in World War II as an ordnance officer in Egypt and then in England where he helped prepare for the 1944 invasion. Hendler commanded the 7847th from its creation in 1951, being charged with constructing the seven depots and supplying vehicles to member countries of NATO from the Germersheim depot. Pebbled cloth binder, with printed card stock labels on each cover. Unique and very good.
