Homes grew larger and more varied with the arrival of the horse. The earthlodge, dating from AD 700, was larger than the tipi of buffalo hide. Both were laid out according to religious beliefs and symbols, as were arbors, burial platforms, sweatlodges, and the impressive structure for the Sun Dance.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Product Description When Daniel's cat sneaks into school with him he spends a long time trying to capture her from various areas of the school building. From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 2 Trouble rears its head when Daniel's Siamese cat, Josephine, hides in his schoolbag and is discovered too late to take her home again. She escapes from Daniel's desk and leads Daniel, students, and staff on a merry chase through the school, ending in the principal's office, where the principal sits with her own cat, who had also come to school that day. Full-page, precise paintings with canvas texture provide the stage for Josephine's escapades. The old-fashioned Montreal school has interesting details: steam heat radiators, wooden floors, an industrial-type wash basin in the girls' washroom, a science lab with assorted preserved animals. The teachers are, unfortunately, stern-faced; the librarian stereotypical; and a large SILENCE sign hangs over her desk. Nonetheless, the story is rollicking, and the illustrations are so real they are touchable. This book and its predecessor, Have You Seen Josephine? (Tundra, 1986), are also available in French editions. Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, Neb.Copyright 1988 Reed Business Information, Inc.
