Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. After a series of non-fiction works, "Turn Of Mind," a mystery-suspense novel, is Stanford professor LaPlante's first venture into fiction. The novel's narrator is Dr. Jennifer White, a recently-retired, California surgeon in the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. White's lifelong friend and neighbor, Amanda, has been murdered with four of her fingers neatly, carefully, removed. Dr. White cannot remember if she killed her friend but she is determined to find out. First Printing, First Edition (as stated, with complete numberline). Signed by LaPlante on the title page. This copy is from the limited edition published by Atlantic Monthly Press for the Indiespensibles subscription book club of the legendary Powell's Bookstore, and issued with both a dustjacket and a custom slipcase. About 6 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, 307 pages including an acknowledgments page at the end. Quarter-bound in black paper over black paper-covered boards showing Atlantic Monthly Press' logo stamped on front cover and gold lettering on spine with dark red end papers. The dustjacket shows a fading portrait photo of a woman with a large part of photo covered with handwriting in white ink. The writing appears to be from Dr. White's notes, kept to help her remember day-to-day events as her dementia progresses. Lettering on cover and spine is blue and white. DJ's back panel shows seven blurbs praising the book. The slipcase is dark-blue cloth over heavy card with the Dr. White's handwritten notes repeated from the dj. The dustjacket shows a tiny wrinkle in the upper front corner of the front panel, o/w boards and text, DJ and slipcase, are all free of any noticeable flaws. Altogether a very striking, very collectable copy of an unusual and extremely well-written mystery novel. Signed by Author(s).
